Random Country Wheel

Last updated November 2026

Same draw as the rest of the site, shown as a spinning wheel. Press the button, watch it slow down, and read off whatever lands under the pointer. It is a better format for a classroom, a stream or anywhere people are watching, because the result arrives with a bit of suspense rather than appearing instantly.

Fourteen slices at a time

A wheel with 195 segments is unreadable, so the wheel shows fourteen countries drawn from whatever pool your filters leave, and reshuffles them after every spin. Over several spins you still see the full range — you are just never squinting at slivers. Narrow the region to the Caribbean or Central Asia and the wheel will often show the entire group at once.

The result is decided before the animation

Worth saying plainly: the winner is drawn first, by the same uniform random function the rest of the site uses, and the wheel is then animated to land on it. The spin is presentation. This is how every honest wheel picker works, and it means the outcome cannot be influenced by how hard or how long you spin.

In a classroom or on stream

The wheel works well on a projector or shared screen. Set the region to match what you are teaching, spin once per pupil or per round, and click through to the country page for the follow-up. If you would rather hand out a printed set, the list generator produces up to fifty at once and copies to the clipboard.

If you prefer no animation

The wheel respects your system’s reduced-motion setting: if you have animations switched off at the operating-system level, it shows the result immediately without spinning. The plain picker is the faster option either way.

Why does the wheel only show 14 countries?

Because 195 slices would be illegible. Fourteen is the most that stays readable, and the wheel reshuffles from the full pool after each spin, so nothing is permanently excluded.

Is the spin genuinely random?

Yes. The winner is drawn with the browser’s cryptographic random generator before the animation starts, and every country in the pool has the same chance.

Can I put only one continent on the wheel?

Yes. Choose a continent or subregion in the Region menu and the wheel rebuilds from it on the spot.

Can I spin again straight away?

Yes, as often as you like. Each spin is independent and reshuffles the slices.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — the wheel scales to the screen and the spin is driven by the button rather than by dragging.
