Random Country to Visit

Last updated November 2026

Choice paralysis is the most common reason a trip never gets booked. This picks a destination for you. Draw one, read what the country is actually like, and see whether it still appeals ten minutes later — that reaction tells you more than another week of browsing.

How to use a random draw properly

  1. Draw three, not one. A single result is too easy to dismiss. Three gives you something to compare, and comparison is where preferences surface.
  2. Read each country page before judging. Most people reject names they know nothing about. Five minutes on the page usually changes at least one of the three.
  3. Narrow by continent if you have a flight budget. A random draw across the whole world is fun but will often land somewhere a long way off.
  4. Keep the ones that nag at you. Rerun the draw as often as you like; the countries you keep thinking about afterwards are the shortlist.

What the draw will not tell you

This is a geography tool, not a travel agency. It does not know about visas, current safety advice, the season you are travelling in or what flights cost from where you live. Check your government’s travel advice and the destination’s entry rules before you commit to anything — those change far faster than any page here.

Why random beats a “top 10” list

Ranked destination lists are circular: places appear because they are popular, and they stay popular because they appear. The same twenty countries absorb most of the world’s tourism while a hundred-odd others are barely visited. A random draw ignores popularity entirely, which is the point — it is the only way a shortlist ends up with somewhere you had not already considered.

Can I limit the draw to one continent?

Yes. Use the Region menu to restrict it to a continent, or to a subregion such as Southeast Asia or the Caribbean.

Does it account for visas or safety?

No. It picks a country and tells you about its geography, capital, climate and attractions. Entry rules and safety advice change constantly — check your own government’s guidance before booking.

Can I exclude places I have already been?

Not yet. Draw a larger list and skip the ones you know; a list of ten with “No repeats” on usually leaves plenty of new names.

Should I include territories?

Switch them on if you are open to places like Puerto Rico, Greenland, Martinique or the Faroe Islands, which are often easier to reach than the sovereign states near them.

Is the draw weighted towards popular destinations?

No. Every country has exactly the same chance, which is why the result is usually somewhere you had not thought of.
