Random Countries List

Last updated November 2026

Need several countries at once rather than one? Set how many you want, press Generate, and copy the list. The generator starts at ten; the quick buttons jump to 1, 3, 5 and 10, and you can type any number up to 50.

Why “no repeats” matters

Leave No repeats on and a list of ten contains ten different countries — this is sampling without replacement, and it is what you want for a quiz, a classroom exercise or a draw. Switch it off and every slot is drawn independently, so duplicates can appear. That sounds like a bug but it is the mathematically correct behaviour for simulations, and with 195 countries in the pool a list of ten has roughly a one in five chance of containing a repeat.

Picking a sensible list size

List size Works well for
2–3 Comparison exercises, debate pairings, “which would you rather visit”
5 A week of daily geography facts, a short quiz round
10 A full quiz, a class of small groups, a travel shortlist
20–50 Test data, bulk worksheets, bracket tournaments

Getting the list out

The Copy button puts the list on your clipboard as plain numbered text with each country’s capital, ready to paste into a document, a spreadsheet or a chat. Share hands the list and a link to your phone’s share sheet. The link carries your settings, so whoever opens it sees the generator set up exactly as you had it.

Every country is one click away

Each name in the generated list links to that country’s page, with its capital, population, climate, main industries and attractions. If you are building a worksheet, that saves the usual round of searching.

Can I generate 5 random countries?

Yes — press the “5” button, or type any number from 1 to 50 in the “How many” box, then press Generate.

Will the list ever repeat a country?

Not while “No repeats” is switched on, which is the default. Turn it off if you specifically want independent draws where duplicates are possible.

Can I get a list from one continent?

Yes. Pick a continent, or a subregion like the Caribbean or Central Asia, in the Region menu before you generate. The list then only contains countries from that area.

How do I copy the list?

Press Copy after generating. The list goes to your clipboard as numbered plain text with capitals included.

What is the largest list I can make?

Fifty. Beyond that a list stops being useful on screen — if you need every country, open the full index under the generator.
